Charges
Committee on R.T. Advocacy region leaders serve for a term of three years. Their primary responsibilities include, developing regional networks made up of 5-6 states per region, to collect and disseminate legislative information, and serving as content experts for issues addressed through ASRT’s Government Relations and Advocacy Department. It also includes mentoring ASRT members in the region by sharing advocacy knowledge and expertise, helping them develop their own networks and contacts, and helping them prepare new volunteers to serve on the Committee on R.T. Advocacy. Region leaders also mentor and assist affiliate societies with efforts to establish, enhance and protect professional standards for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals at the state level.
Duties
The ASRT Committee on R.T. Advocacy region leaders are appointed by the ASRT Board of Directors as representatives for nine geographical regions recognized by the ASRT Government Relations Department. Committee on R.T. Advocacy region leaders serve for a term of three years. Primary responsibilities include developing regional networks to collect and disseminate legislative information, serving as content experts for issues addressed through ASRT’s Government Relations Department and mentoring ASRT members in the region by sharing advocacy knowledge and expertise and helping them to develop their own networks and contacts in order to prepare new volunteers to serve on the Committee on R.T. Advocacy. Each region leader serves as leader of a Regional Advocacy Subcommittee. Region leaders also mentor and assist affiliate societies with efforts to establish, enhance and protect professional standards for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals at the state level.
Time Commitment
- Committee members can expect to spend a minimum of three hours per month reviewing e-mails and documents from ASRT, participating in a monthly conference call and contacting ASRT members to gather information about advocacy and state legislative issues.
- Writing of articles may be requested for ASRT Scanner or other ASRT publications. Potential authors will be contacted well in advance to allow for preparation.
- Urgent legislative call-to actions may occur, and it is expected members will participate in communicating to their network about the need.
Travel Commitment
There is no travel required to serve on the Committee on R.T. Advocacy.
Skills
- Must be able to communicate well with others and be passionate about the radiologic science profession.
- Must be willing to promote the radiologic profession and patient safety and encourage others to do the same.
- Prior knowledge of legislative or regulatory process is helpful, but not required. Resources are available to teach new members advocacy skills.
Criteria:
- Shall be an ASRT member.
- Shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate.
- Shall live or work in the region the committee member is appointed to represent.
- Consideration shall be given to geographic and modality representation.
