Charges
Committee on R.T. Advocacy region leaders serve for a term of three years. Their primary responsibilities include, developing regional networks made up of 5-6 states per region, to collect and disseminate legislative information, and serving as content experts for issues addressed through ASRT’s Government Relations Department. It also includes mentoring ASRT members in the region by sharing advocacy knowledge and expertise, helping them develop their own networks and contacts, and helping them prepare new volunteers to serve on the Committee on R.T. Advocacy. Region leaders also mentor and assist affiliate societies with efforts to establish, enhance and protect professional standards for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals at the state level.
Duties
The ASRT Committee on R.T. Advocacy region leaders are appointed by the ASRT Board of Directors as representatives for nine geographic regions. Committee on R.T. Advocacy region leaders serve for a term of three years and are eligible for reappointment for an additional three-year term. Primary responsibilities include developing regional networks to collect and disseminate legislative information, serving as content experts for issues addressed through ASRT’s Government Relations Department and mentoring ASRT members in the region by sharing advocacy knowledge and expertise and helping them to develop their own networks and contacts in order to prepare new volunteers to serve on the Committee on R.T. Advocacy. Each region leader serves as chair of a Regional Subcommittee. Region leaders also mentor and assist affiliate societies with efforts to establish, enhance and protect professional standards for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals at the state level.
Time Commitment
- Region leaders can expect to spend a minimum of three hours per month reviewing emails and documents from ASRT, participating in a monthly conference call and contacting ASRT members to gather information about advocacy and state legislative issues.
- Writing of articles may be requested for ASRT Scanner or other ASRT publications. Potential authors will be contacted in advance to allow for preparation.
- Urgent legislative call-to actions may occur, and it is expected that members will participate in communicating to their network about the need for immediate response.
Travel Commitment
There is no travel required to serve on the Committee on R.T. Advocacy.
Skills
- Must be able to communicate well with others and be passionate about the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession.
- Must be willing to promote the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession and patient safety and encourage others to do the same.
- Prior knowledge of the legislative or regulatory process is helpful, but not required. Resources are available to teach new members advocacy skills.
- Successful completion of the Online Advocacy Academy is not required but may help region leaders with some tasks.
Criteria:
- Shall be an ASRT member.
- Shall be a member of an ASRT affiliate.
- Shall live or work in the region the committee member is appointed to represent.
