Career Pathways Taken by Radiologic Technologists

Career Pathways Taken by Radiologic Technologists was a joint venture between ASRT and Health Careers Futures, part of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation of Pittsburgh. The survey examined the demographic and educational backgrounds of technologists as well as exploring how and when they became interested in the profession, what academic and external forces led them to choose the profession, and their willingness to endorse a career in the radiologic sciences.

ASRT’s Environmental Scan of the Radiographer’s Workplace was conducted in three stages in 2002. This three-stage study combined surveys with in-depth interviews to develop an understanding of who technologists are, and their work environment, duties, and concerns.

ASRT's Environmental Scan of the Radiation Therapist's Workplace was sent to radiation therapists in 2003. The survey examined demographics, work experience and qualifications, work environment and issues facing the profession.

FutureScan: Survey of the Future of Radiologic Technology was a survey sent to radiologic technologists in 2005. The survey asked technologists their opinion on how trends in education, technology and other aspects of the healthcare market would impact the profession going forward.

Management Chapter Members' Perspectives on Professional Issues

Management Chapter Members' Perspectives on Professional Issues was a survey sent to members of ASRT’s management chapter in 2002. The survey was designed to understand the professional profile of members of the management chapter and to elicit their perspectives on current issues in the radiologic sciences.

Contrast Administration Safety Survey

The Contrast Administration Safety Survey was sent to radiologic technologists specializing in radiography, computed tomography or interventional radiography in 2005. In addition to a demographic profile of the respondent and their facility, the survey asked about usage of contrast media, safety protocols in administering contrast and preferences in contrast packaging.

Policies Toward Continuing Education for Radiologic Technologists was a survey sent to managers in 2006. The survey was designed to better understand whether and how facilities help radiologic technologists on their staff maintain their professional certification, continuing education requirements, and any additional educational needs.
