ASRT National Library Partnership Earns Prestigious Awards

Sep 08, 2020

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists was honored by the American Society of Association Executives with a 2020 Power of A Silver Award for its innovative ASRT National Library Partnership program.

The ASRT National Library Partnership awarded grants to public libraries for the purchase of books and other materials that highlight medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures and radiologic technologists’ role in health care.

“We are proud to share our story and partner with one of the country’s most trusted institutions -- public libraries. The ASAE Power of A Award is a prestigious accolade that we share with our 157,000 members, who supported this outreach from the beginning.” said ASRT President Mike Odgren, B.S., R.P.A., R.R.A., R.T.(R)(CT). “Especially now, when radiologic technologists are essential in the diagnosis of COVID-19, it’s more important than ever to educate the public about radiologic technologists, the patient safety measures they diligently employ and the science behind radiological procedures.”

Since 2016, more than 200 public libraries, large and small, in every state in the nation, have received grants from ASRT of up to $2,000 to purchase books and other educational materials related to medical imaging and radiation therapy, and the pioneers of radiologic technology. Many of the libraries received grants through recommendations from ASRT members who are local library patrons. During National Radiologic Technology Week®, the libraries hosted displays that include books, posters and information on the profession and its history. In addition, to spread the word about the program, ASRT developed the #ASRTLovesLibraries hashtag to encourage libraries and their patrons to share information about the program on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

In addition to the Power of A award, the ASRT National Library Partnership also earned two 2019 Trendy Awards -- bronze recognition in the Advocacy category and silver recognition in the Website category. Association TRENDS is a community dedicated to providing association executives and industry partners with training, data and insights. They coordinate the annual Trendy awards, which included more than 400 entries in 23 categories.
