FAQ Election

• What are ASRT Bylaws?

  Bylaws are rules adopted and maintained by an association or society that define and direct its internal structure and management. They are subordinate, and complementary, to an association's articles of incorporation.

  Articles of incorporation are the primary law of an association used to establish the general organization and governing of the association to achieve corporate existence.

  Bylaws are the secondary law of an association best used to detail how the society is formed and run.

  In most states, bylaws are not specifically required for an incorporated or unincorporated association. However, ASRT's state of incorporation, Illinois, requires them. Even where legally optional, most associations elect to have a set of bylaws because of their usefulness in management operations.

  The ASRT reviews its bylaws on a continuous basis to keep them current and relevant. Members should familiarize themselves with the document to better understand the organization they represent and that represents them.

• Who is eligible to vote?

  You are eligible to vote in the ASRT election if you were an ASRT member on or before the last business day in December. The ASRT Bylaws extend voting rights to all voting members.

• How will I know when the election begins?

  You will receive an email announcing important election dates starting in February. To assure your election messages arrive safely in your inbox, make sure your email address is correct in your [email protected].

• How can I learn about the candidates?

  There are several ways you can learn about the candidates before you vote:

  • Sample Ballot - Print the sample ballot to review before you vote. The sample ballot will be available in January.
  • Officer Candidates - Read their position statements and biographies when posted in December.
  • Delegate Candidates - Read their position statements and biographies when posted in December.
  • Open Forums - Sign up to attend the 30-minute forums to learn about the candidates. The forums will take place in January.
  • Ask questions and interact with national officer and chapter delegate candidates in the ASRT Communities.

• When will candidate profiles be available?

  Candidate information and position statements will be posted at asrt.org/vote in late December and will remain online through the close of the election in March.

• How long does it take to vote?

  The online voting process is easy and takes minutes to complete. We encourage you to read the candidate information in advance. The candidate information will also be available as you are voting.

• What do I do if I am having problems voting online?

  ASRT has partnered with Survey & Ballot Systems, an independent election management service based in Minnesota, to conduct the election. If you are having trouble voting, call Survey & Ballot Systems directly at 800-974-8099.

• Will ASRT know how I voted?

  No. Survey & Ballot Systems, an independent election management service based in Minnesota, is conducting the election for the ASRT. You can be assured that no individual voting records will be known to anyone outside of Survey & Ballot Systems.

• How do I obtain a paper ballot?

  If you would like a paper ballot and written candidate information, contact Survey & Ballot Systems at 800-974-8099 or visit online and request that they mail the information to you.

• Which positions will be up for election?

• When will election results be available?

  Election results are published online in early April and in the April/May issue of ASRT Scanner.

• What if I have questions about the ASRT election process?

• What are the campaigning guidelines?

  Campaigning for national office or chapter delegate positions is allowed on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn in addition to the ASRT Communities. The Campaign Guidelines outline the specific policies and procedures everyone should follow during the ASRT election.
