ASRT Educator Institute

Educator Institute is a new program for educators in the radiologic sciences community. This educational series is designed to teach the classroom instructor about principles of adult education, classroom management and student behavior, academic dishonesty, the facilitation of learning, and curriculum design. In addition to these essential topics, the benefits of emerging technology in the classroom, strategies for negotiating with administrative professionals, grant writing, and proper record keeping are covered.

The primary goal of Educator Institute is to prepare medical imaging and radiation therapy educators for classroom instruction. Some key clinical elements are included as well, because the patient care environment is another kind of classroom.

ASRT will begin accepting applications for Educator Institute in summer of 2018. Candidates must be an ASRT member to apply, and 15 educators will be selected to participate. Enrollees will complete 5 self-directed online learning modules over 5 weeks during the first part of the program, which kicks off in early 2019. In the spring of 2019, this group of educators will be flown out to ASRT’s national office in Albuquerque, New Mexico to complete the program. Over the course of a day and a half, they will meet with ASRT staff and participate in additional educational coursework. Continuing education credit will be offered for completion of the coursework, and there are no fees associated with acceptance into Educator Institute. Participants will receive an ASRT Communities ribbon and a certificate of completion to celebrate their achievement. Please look for further information about the application process in July 2018.
