The term "skiagraph" was an early name for an x-ray image, skia coming from the Greek, meaning shadow; thus, the "shadowgraph." This book, published by the ASRT, was written to honor the women and men whose sacrifice and determination established and fostered one of the most influential and important professions in all medicine. It commemorates ASRT’s 100th year of service to radiologic technology professionals — the shadowmakers.
Originally published in 1995 to celebrate the Society’s 75th anniversary, the second edition of Shadowmakers has been reimagined and updated for the 21st century. Technologists, educators, students and members of the general public with an interest in exploring the history of medical imaging will value this unique resource.
