A teratoma is a germ cell tumor, the name of which is derived from the Greek word “teratos”, meaning monster. These tumors are so-called because they are composed of well-differentiated tissues such as bone, muscle, teeth, and hair. This presentation will describe teratomas, the various anatomic sites in which they can manifest, and their radiologic imaging features. The differences between mature and immature teratomas will be discussed, as well as their malignancy potential. Associated clinical complications and treatment options for optimal patient outcomes will also be reviewed.
