ASRT Health Equity Leadership Academy

Applications for the Health Equity Leadership Academy are now closed.

The medical imaging and radiation therapy profession is a remarkably diverse and vibrant community, and the same is true of the membership of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. To carry on our tradition of inclusivity and fulfill our mission for the entire medical imaging and radiation therapy community, the ASRT is proud to announce the Health Equity Leadership Academy, an evolution of the Diversity Leadership Development Program.


Program Goals

  • Provide members with education and frameworks to increase awareness and take action for health equity as medical imaging technologists and radiation therapists.
  • Learn frameworks and skills to integrate a culture of belonging into your leadership practice.
  • Bring together members of all backgrounds to drive creativity and innovation in medical imaging and radiation therapy.
  • Inspire a new generation of leaders to consider future participation in ASRT’s governance structure.

Program Events and Deliverables

Health Equity Leadership Academy participants will join the followings events and complete listed deliverables from fall 2024 to summer 2026.

Committee on RT Advocacy

Deliverables

Completion of individual project planning and implementation with presentation to the group during virtual sessions.

Group presentation of a continuing education session for the ASRT Educational Symposium. The Health Equity Leadership Academy Facilitator will assign a topic and provide guidance on content.

Orientation

Orientation (Fall 2024)

Once program participants have been selected, a virtual orientation will be conducted to review the structure of the program and encourage active participation.

Capstone

Health Equity Leadership Academy Virtual Learning Sessions (Winter 2024 – Spring 2026)

After the completion of orientation, Health Equity Leadership Academy participants will meet once a month virtually to explore health equity definitions, current data, frameworks for action, and an introduction to ASRT governance. The meetings are synchronous, and attendance is expected. Discussions will not be recorded for later viewing; however, overview notes from each session will be provided.

These sessions build toward the completion of individual project planning and implementation in program year two (2025 – 2026) with presentations to the group during virtual sessions.

Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting

Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting (June 2026)

Participants will attend the annual meeting of the ASRT where elected members debate and vote on motions and proposed changes to the ASRT Bylaws, as well as clinical practice and educational standards.

During the Educational Symposium, the Health Equity Leadership Academy will have a group presentation for a continuing education session for the ASRT Educational Symposium. The Health Equity Leadership Academy Facilitator will assign a topic and provide guidance on content.

Participant Criteria

  • Professional Experience: Applicants must have at least three years of work experience in medical imaging or radiation therapy.
  • Work Environment: To ensure the entire profession is heard, participants will be selected from a variety of modalities within the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession, as well as different geographic regions and types of imaging facilities.
  • ASRT Membership: ASRT membership for at least three consecutive years prior to application.
  • Culture of Belonging: Candidates will be asked to submit a statement explaining how they have contributed to a culture of belonging and to share the unique perspectives and experiences they bring to the ASRT.
  • Motivation: Applicants will be asked to write an additional paragraph explaining their motivation to engage with the program.

  • Completion of individual project based on course content

June 2026 Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting (in-person event), including:
  • Group presentation for Student to Leadership Development Program
  • Health Equity Leadership Academy Completion
