Charges
Primary responsibilities include reviewing the ASRT Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, for
relevancy and inclusion while recommending changes or additions to be approved by the House of Delegates, as well
as, researching practice issues and developing opinions through the advisory opinion statement process. Council
members should be able to provide guidance on practice trends that emerge as well as promote the practice standards
among the profession.
Duties:
The ASRT Practice Standards Council members are appointed by the ASRT Board of Directors as the 12 representatives
for the disciplines recognized by the ASRT House of Delegates. Additionally, each council member serves as chair of
a Practice Standards Council subcommittee for their designated discipline.
The Practice Standards Council shall:
- Develop and maintain the Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy in accordance with
approved processes.
- Propose revisions to the Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy based on evidentiary
documentation.
- Research and review practice issues and recommend action.
- Be invited to author “Standards and Practices” columns for the ASRT Scanner.
- Educate, support and promote values of practice standards to ASRT members and medical imaging and radiation
therapy professionals in maintaining the highest standards and ethics.
Time Commitment
During this three-year commitment, Practice Standards Council members can expect to spend a minimum of six hours per
month reviewing and contributing to community postings, reviewing ASRT Practice Standards documents, and
participating in council meetings.
The year that your discipline is due for revision, the council member can expect to spend a minimum of five hours per
week from July through September facilitating the work of their subcommittee by gathering opinions from fellow
chapter members about practice-related issues, reviewing and contributing to community postings, responding to
email, reviewing practice standards documents, leading webinars and finalizing practice standards revisions. This
review is scheduled to occur during the third year of the term. See the current subcommittee review cycle on the

Practice Standards Council members are expected to attend all meetings of the council. Most of these meetings occur
through the Zoom platform.
Travel Commitment
Travel may be required for an in-person meeting of the council one time per year at the Albuquerque, N.M., office in
October with an expected minimum travel of three days to attend this meeting. These travel days occur both during
the week and on a weekend. ASRT provides financial assistance for this travel.
Skills
Practice Standards Council members must have in-depth knowledge and clinical experience in the discipline they
represent to provide opinions on behalf of ASRT members. Council members must be able to manage multiple projects,
be detail oriented, be comfortable leading a group to a decision and soliciting opinions from others, be
knowledgeable of ASRT practice standards processes, be able to build collaborative relationships and be able to
manage group conflict.
Criteria
- Be an ASRT member.
- Be a member of an ASRT affiliate or, if active military, a member of the ASRT Military Chapter.
- Be a member of the chapter the council member is appointed to represent.
- Be credentialed in the discipline the council is appointed to represent.
- Meet the qualifications for practicing in the discipline being represented as defined in the ASRT House of Delegates Procedure Manual.
Consideration shall be given to geographic representation and past ASRT delegate experience.
