New Jersey Assembly Considers RA Resolution

Dec 08, 2016

The New Jersey General Assembly is considering a resolution to ask that the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners adopt regulations authorizing radiologist assistants to practice in the state.

Assembly Concurrent Resolution 217 was introduced on Dec. 5 by Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez. While it does not have the force of law to mandate adoption of RA regulations, this resolution asks Gov. Chris Christie to take executive actions to facilitate rulemaking to allow RAs to practice to their full scope of their abilities.

Currently RAs may perform imaging procedures authorized by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. However, in order to fully practice, RAs must also have authorization from the Board of Medical Examiners.

ACR 217 has been referred to the Assembly Committee on Regulated Professions.
