Continuing the Process

Checklist To Maintain Your Advocacy Efforts

Make the affiliate society's work on professional issues matter. No one wants all of the affiliate’s hard work to be for nothing, so maintain the advocacy program for continued success and growth. It’s a cycle that must keep repeating.

Use this checklist at least once a year to stay on track with building a succession plan for advocacy efforts and leaders.

  • Review the affiliate advocacy strategic plan.
  • Recreate a SWOT analysis.
  • Assess goals and adjust as needed.
  • Assess the overall program to determine if changes need to be made.
  • Evaluate and determine whether the initiative or activities should be sustained.
  • Determine what it will take to sustain the initiative.
  • Identify resources needed.
  • Develop a mentor plan to continually educate advocates and prepare engaged advocates to lead new campaigns and efforts.
  • Create a new action plan.
  • Provide frequent updates about the affiliate advocacy program on the website and social media sites.
  • Participate in the ASRT monthly state advocacy conference call and pass along information.
  • Conduct webinars and create videos promoting the affiliate society’s advocacy efforts.
  • Update the advocacy task calendar to reflect the changes.
  • Review the plan and calendar every three months or as changes happen.

ASRT appreciates the affiliate societies' and leaders' interest in building and maintaining an advocacy program. There are many more activities an affiliate society can develop. The ASRT encourages affiliate leaders and members to use the ideas presented in this guidebook to begin thinking about and improving upon advocacy efforts.

ASRT believes radiologic technologists and radiation therapists will make a difference in the profession and in the lives of patients because of determined individuals taking action.
