Prepare To Play a Role in Your Profession’s Future

The ASRT Online Advocacy Academy gives ASRT members the opportunity to learn how to affect positive change in the standards and regulations guiding the profession, as well as the skills they will need to protect the profession against future perils.

Applications will be accepted from ASRT members until May 19, 2019. Participants will be selected and notified by June 14.

This 10-week course is designed to help participants:

  • Promote, enhance and defend the profession’s standards by developing skills to navigate the legislative and regulatory process.
  • Work toward a leadership position on their affiliate’s board and strengthen their affiliate society’s advocacy and media relations skills.
  • Develop personal advocacy and organizational skills.

Course Topics

The ASRT Online Advocacy Academy (OLAA) is moderated through a private group established in the ASRT Communities. Learning takes place through online-narrated learning modules, discussion posts, conference calls and hands-on projects.

Who and What Makes a Good Advocate?

 July 7 - 13, 2019

  • Identify advocacy development opportunities for affiliate societies.
  • Identify skills that individuals may already have to assist them in becoming strong advocates for the profession.

Module 6
Sustaining the Effort

 August 25 - September 7, 2019

  • Identify issues and trends and refresh your long-term advocacy strategic plan.
  • Learn methods for attracting new advocacy volunteers.
  • Develop an advocacy volunteer succession plan.
  • Budget for long-term affiliate advocacy efforts.
  • Create long-term relationships with lawmakers.



Applicants for the ASRT Online Advocacy Academy must be a current member of the ASRT and affiliate society in the state that they live or work.

ASRT must receive this application and the applicant’s affiliate card must be on file with ASRT Volunteer Relations Department by May 19, 2019 at midnight to be eligible for consideration.


Before submitting this online application, we suggest you print a copy for files. Once the application is submitted you cannot return to the same form, so please think your answers through carefully before submitting.

After the ASRT has received this submission, we will verify that you are a current ASRT member and member of your state’s affiliate society. If you do not have a current affiliate membership card on file with the ASRT Volunteer Relations Department, you will be notified and asked to submit one before you can be considered for the program.
