Libraries in New Mexico Recognize National Radiologic Technology Week®

    Nov 07, 2017

In a pilot project designed to recognize the vital work of radiologic technologists, several libraries in New Mexico are hosting book displays that focus on medical imaging and radiation therapy.

The program is part of National Radiologic Technology Week®, an annual event that recognizes medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals across the nation. The celebration takes place each year during the week that includes Nov. 8 to commemorate the the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen in 1895. This year’s event takes place Nov. 5-11.

Libraries in Albuquerque, Artesia, Rio Rancho and Gallup received grants from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists to purchase selected books and create displays highlighting the radiologic sciences. The program is part of ASRT’s ongoing commitment to educate the public about radiologic technologists’ role on the health care team, patient safety measures, and the science behind medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures.

The program could grow to a regional or national effort in the years to come.
