• ASRT Announcement

To Our Members Affected by the Hurricanes

Sep 13, 2017

With the destruction caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma affecting thousands of ASRT members, the ASRT Board of Directors and staff send their sympathy and concern to members and their families living in the areas devastated by the storms.

Following Hurricane Harvey, we implemented a series of measures to support ASRT members who live in counties declared disaster areas by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. We have put into effect the same measures for members affected by Hurricane Irma.

  • We have automatically extended your membership until Dec. 31, 2017. This applies to members scheduled to renew within the next three months. You will retain your original join date and your member record will not show any lapse in membership.
  • To make it easier to keep up with continuing education requirements, we will waive the $20 change fee if you would like to switch to the Directed Reading Flex Plan. This will give you online access to a library of all of ASRT’s Directed Readings. To switch, call the ASRT Member Services Department at 800-444-2778. As this offer is for members living in FEMA disaster areas, please note that you must call Member Services to switch to the Directed Reading Flex Plan™ at no additional cost.

These accommodations are available upon request to any member who lives in a county or state that has been declared a disaster area by FEMA because of the hurricanes. To find out whether your county or state has been declared a disaster area by FEMA, visit https://www.disasterassistance.gov.

If you have been displaced because of the hurricanes and have a new mailing address, please update your membership record online by going to asrt.org/myinfo or by calling ASRT at 800-444-2778. Please note that the storms could affect the delivery of the September/October issue of Radiologic Technology; however, the journal is available online now.

Radiologic technologists who are concerned about their ability to meet their CE requirements should contact the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists at 651-687-0048, Ext. 8540. The ARRT establishes CE policies for its registrants.

Many ASRT members have contacted us to express their interest in assisting with relief efforts. Because ASRT does not have the infrastructure to organize disaster recovery efforts, we encourage our members to volunteer with reputable, established relief teams that are already in place. For example, those interested in volunteering for cleanup efforts, shelter operations or recovery teams can contact the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army or Samaritan’s Purse. All of these organizations are actively seeking volunteers who are within driving distance of the affected areas.

Members also may choose to support these organizations with financial donations. ASRT has donated $20,000 to the American Red Cross on our members’ behalf to support relief efforts.

We hope all radiologic technologists affected by the storm are safe, secure and on the path to recovery. Our thoughts are with you.
