New Mexico Moves To Adopt New Regulations

Dec 16, 2016

The New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Advisory Council will move forward with regulations to license sonographers and magnetic resonance technologists in the state.

In 2009, the New Mexico Legislature enacted licensure standards for sonographers and magnetic resonance technologists, adding these disciplines to existing licensure standards for radiographers, radiation therapists, nuclear medicine technologists, radiologist assistants and limited x-ray machine operators. The regulatory proposal under consideration will update the existing R.T. licensure program. After receiving input from stakeholders during public meetings, the MIRTAC has completed its work.

The proposed regulations will be considered for final adoption by the New Mexico Environmental Improvement Board in 2017.
