ASRT Opens Museum and Archives

Jun 30, 2015

More than 600 ASRT members and honored guests attended the grand opening of the ASRT Museum and Archives on June 26 at ASRT's national office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The result of three years of planning and preparation, the museum tells the story of the ASRT and the radiologic technology profession. Designed to mirror the high-tech, high-touch nature of medical imaging  and radiation therapy, the museum features state-of-the art exhibits and interactive displays that showcase the profession’s past, present and future.

Within the walls of the museum are a mix of touch tables, video screens and hands-on exhibits. The touch screens allow visitors to interact with digital media and see a side of the profession in a different light. The videos focus on historical milestones ranging from Thomas Edison’s experiments with fluoroscopy to battlefield radiography during World War II, and the hands-on exhibits allow visitors to touch and feel history.

In addition to innovative displays, the museum honors some of the profession’s greats. Special attention is given to Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, Marie Curie, Ed Jerman and others.

According to ASRT Chief Executive Officer Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, CAE, the museum serves as a dedicated space that tells the story of radiologic technology."The museum highlights the profession’s history and the radiologic technologists who have dedicated their lives to advancing the profession and providing patients with high quality care. My hope is every ASRT member will have the opportunity to visit the museum and experience everything it has to offer."
