Eligibility

Applicant Eligibility

• All applicants must be active ASRT members and must reside within the continental United States, Hawaii or Alaska.
• Applicants also must be a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident.
• Applicants must complete their certificate or degree program after Sept. 1 of the year in which scholarship applications are due.
• ASRT Foundation Board of Trustees, ASRT Board of Directors, ASRT staff and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply.

Entry-Level applicants are students in entry-level programs who have not yet passed any of the primary pathway registry exams (or equivalent).

• For entry-level scholarships only, be enrolled in an accredited radiologic science program with at least one semester of radiologic studies (not prerequisites) completed with a minimum program GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, GPA verification is required by the application deadline.

Professional-Level applicants are students who have already attained certification from the ARRT or other equivalent certifying organization or have completed an entry-level program and are transitioning directly into further education to obtain additional certification or an academic degree.

• For professional-level scholarships only, have applied to or currently attend an accredited degree or certificate program.

• College, university or medical institution must be accredited and located in the United States.

What a Scholarship Covers (Use of Funds)

ASRT Foundation scholarship award funds can be used for:

• Tuition.
• Books.
• Fees, on-campus room and board.
• Supplies and equipment required for your course load.
• Any leftover amount may be distributed to you according to the policies of your institution.

  • Financial data (All applicants also will be required to report their adjusted gross income, number of household members and children in college, cost of attendance of current educational program and non-repayable educational assistance)
  • Entry-level applicants only: Name and email of GPA verifier, typically a program director or administrator.

Tips

• Read and follow all directions carefully.
• Check your application against your financial records to make sure you entered your information accurately.
• Do not leave any fields blank. Use “0” if the answer is zero or unknown.
• If you are applying for an entry-level scholarship, be sure to follow-up with your GPA verifier to ensure they completed the verification before the scholarship deadline.
• Professional level only: If you applied to more than one school, list your first choice on the application. If you are chosen to receive an award, you will have a chance to change your school when you accept the award.

Scholarship Process and Timeline

Applications open: November through mid-January.

• During this time scholarship applicants can access, complete and submit their applications. Entry-level applicants will request GPA verifiers to submit verification, and verifiers must submit verification prior to the application deadline.

Application review and approval: end of January through end of March

• During this time the Scholarship Review Committee, an independent panel, evaluates applications and assigns scores to each section of the application based on standardized criteria. The combined scores are ranked, and recipients are recommended to the Board of Trustees for final approval.

Awarding process: April and May

• Scholarship recipients are notified by an email from Blackbaud. Keep an eye on your email, you will only have one-week to accept! If you do not accept by the deadline provided, the scholarship will be offered to someone else.
• All applicants will be notified by June 1 of the status of their award, whether you received a scholarship or not.

Fund disbursement: June, August and December

ASRT Foundation staff will work directly with the recipient’s school to determine the best method of payment. Scholarship funds will be disbursed either by direct deposit or check, depending on the school’s preference. The recipient will provide the school’s information during the post-acceptance process; it is important that this information is accurate. ASRT Foundation staff will communicate the chosen method of payment to the recipient immediately prior to disbursement.

Payments will be made to institution only. It is the recipient’s responsibility to notify the ASRT Foundation if there has been a change of address, or if funds are not received within 30 days of the disbursement date below:

Disbursement periods:

• Summer: June 1
• Fall: August 1
• Spring: December 1

Additional Information

• Professional level only: Applicants must have proof of program acceptance or enrollment by the time the scholarship is offered (typically April). If you won’t have this information, or if you disenroll, please let us know by March of the year the scholarship is to be awarded. This helps us offer the award to another individual with minimal disruptions to the process.
• Our scholarships are based on the same criteria the U.S. government uses for federal student aid. You must be one of the following to receive federal student aid: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident who has a I-151, I-551 or I-551C (alien registration receipt card). Individuals with a visitor, student or G-series visa are ineligible. For more information on how the U.S. government classifies non-citizens, please visit their web page on Federal Student Aid. Please contact the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for information on possible assistance for international students.
• If you disenroll from your program after receiving a scholarship, funds must be returned to the ASRT Foundation. You may transfer from one institution to another and retain the award; however, you program of study must remain related to a career in the radiologic sciences. Scholarships are not intended to assist an R.T. in switching careers, including becoming a physician assistant or radiologist.
• You may be awarded only one scholarship per year. If you qualify for more than one scholarship, you will receive the award with the highest dollar amount. Previous recipients are eligible to apply, however, applicants are only eligible to win a specific scholarship twice.
• We do not accept any scholarship documents by mail or fax. All applications and related materials must be completed online through Blackbaud.
