Clinical training is a major component of Radiologic Technology Educational Programs, whereby Radiologic Technologists (RTs) and Clinical Instructors (CIs) assume the primary role of mentoring RT students during their clinical training. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) have established RT program regulations, standards, and guidelines. Current ARRT and JRCERT accreditation standards do not require RT programs to provide RTs and CIs mentor-training. A national survey of ARRT certified RT educators from the Association of Educators in Radiological Sciences (AERS) was conducted to assess the feasibility of, and needs for, an RT mentor-training program. The results of this study overwhelmingly confirm that a mentor-training program is needed. Furthermore, the results indicated that a mentor-training program would improve upon the consistency and quality of clinical training for RT students.
