My journey in medical imaging began in 1996 at Midland College. Navigating a rigorous radiography program as a single mother of two was incredibly challenging, but the unwavering support of family and friends carried me to graduation in 1998. Determined to advance, I later entered the radiologist assistant program at Midwestern State University, earning both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

As a faculty member at MSU, I eventually set my sights on becoming the RA program director and graduate coordinator. However, I soon realized that earning a doctoral degree stood between me and those leadership roles. Ready to unlock that closed door, I enrolled at A.T. Still University to pursue my doctorate.

To help fund this next step, I turned to the ASRT Foundation and was honored to receive the James and Stephanie Johnston Journey Scholarship in 2021. This incredible gift offset my tuition, allowing me to concentrate on my doctoral studies without the heavy anxiety of accumulating debt.

I am proud to say I earned my Doctor of Health Sciences in 2023 and am now the RA program director and graduate coordinator at MSU. Furthermore, my doctoral education significantly enhanced my research and writing abilities, enabling me to give back to our profession through my research. Looking ahead, I plan to apply for an ASRT Foundation grant to support ongoing research into advanced radiologic science practice roles.

Remembering exactly where I started, I feel a deep desire to support current students facing financial hurdles. This journey taught me the profound value of paying it forward, which is why I am now a proud monthly donor to the ASRT Foundation.
